This Advent, join us in imagining, prioritizing, and preparing.
As we wait, what can’t?
Advent is a season of waiting, but is idle waiting what God wants of us? In preparation for the coming Messiah, we wonder together—what things can’t wait? What demands our immediate attention? What requires our work and
preparation? What is it that God can’t wait for? Is it our praise, reconciliation, and proclamation? Is it the end of suffering, isolation, and fear?
We invite you to carve out time each day to listen for God speaking to you
through art, poetry, silent reflection, and embodied prayer. As we are called to action during this season, may we also be mindful of what can wait—for we are also called to rest and receive the gifts of Sabbath.
WEDNESDAY MORNINGS AT 10:00 AM
You are invited to join us for our Wednesday morning Advent Gatherings which will begin November 27 and continue the first three Wednesdays of December and January 8. These Gatherings will take the place of our usual Wednesday morning Bible study, and we will meet by the fireplace in the Friendship Hall at 10:00 a.m. You are invited to come join us whenever that works for you. Each Gathering will be on a different topic—Hope, Peace, Joy, Love and Gifts—and will include brief prayers and scripture readings; the lighting of Advent candles; readings from works by Madeleine L’Engle, Robert Fulghum, Theophane the Monk, Sarah Young, and Mark Nepo; and questions for reflection and sharing. The regular Bible study group will no doubt continue its practice of adjourning to Moonlite Bay for noon lunch, and you are welcome to join us there, too
